Next week I'll be traveling to Ontario and visiting a lodge in Canada. I imagine it will be an interesting experience to see the differences between jurisdictions of entirely different countries and how they operate under a different political system than that of America. Many seem to forget that Canada is not a Republic like America in that it belongs to the British Commonwealth which is still headed up by the Queen of England, Elizabeth II. I will post updates after my trip concludes.

I had the awesome opportunity to visit Dufferin Lodge #338 (http://www.niagaramasons.com/Lodges/Dufferin/(Dufferin%20HOME.htm). Worshipful Master Marshall Davis and his lodge welcomed me with open arms and put on a great showing of their lodges history presented by Brother Secretary Bruce McLennan. Most interestingly was the conversation that took place after where all the brethren talked about their own history while attending Dufferin #338. The entire meeting was a very pleasant one and I hope to attend another soon. I discovered many differences in the ritual work between Canada and Pennsylvania and I encourage any Pennsylvania Mason to visit a Canadian lodge, specifically Dufferin and its fantastic body of Freemasons.

After working with the Worshipful Master of Ivy #397 I took the opportunity to explore the Archives for both #397 and #106. Brothers, I speak both as a historian and a concerned Mason, do not forget your past. The wealth of knowledge contained in that room was humbling to say the least. Of special note is a book dating back to 1867 where their are written records of the lodge meeting notes. These notes are of particular interest as they are the notes of the lodges inception and first years. A second book contained many, if not most, photographs of the past Worshipful Masters dating back to its inception. These images, and the other material in the room, depict a 152-year history. I'm working with the Worshipful Master to sort and catalog the material so that I may create a better method for storing the lodges past.

It's been quite some time since I last updated this. In that time I have had two children and have moved around for the military. I have resigned my membership in Pennsylvania as a Pennsylvania Freemason and became an endowed member of San Jacinto Lodge No.106 in Willis, Texas. I took the opportunity to attend several Grand Lodge communications at the Grand Lodge of Texas and stood witness to some interesting history that has already been covered quite extensively by Brother Chris Hodapp on his blog Freemasons for Dummies. Continuing my military career I had the opportunity to move to Oklahoma and visit a lodge there and have relocated once again to Indiana. I'll be working on visiting a lodge here soon! More to follow ...
